What Does Reef Safe Mean?

Many sunscreens are known to contain the chemicals oxybenzone and octinoxate. These chemicals block UV rays but have been found to cause coral bleaching. Reef safe or reef friendly sunscreens will not contain chemicals which are toxic to coral or any marine life in the coral reef ecosystem.

What Is SPF? What Do The Numbers Actually Mean?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. The SPF number indicates the amount of time you will remain protected in the sun For example, an SPF 2 product protects your skin just as effectively as one with an SPF of 30. But it wont prtect you for long. SPF 2 sunscreen will need to be applied much more frequently than an SPF 30.

Tips On Using Sunscreen

Apply an ample amount to all exposed skin 20 minutes prior to sun exposure.

Better to apply too much than not enough.

Don’t forget your ears, eyelids, lips and tops of your feet. Apparently these are the most common areas we miss.

Re-apply regularly whilst you remain in the sun, especially after swimming, heavy sweating or towelling.

Remember UV rays are at their strongest at the middle of the day (between 10am and 4pm)
