Maqui (Chilean wineberry) is a sweet/tart berry that grows in the remote and wild region of Patagonia at the tip of South America. Its exceptionally deep purple colour is due to its high levels of the powerful antioxidant anthocyanin; in fact, maqui is thought to have the highest antioxidant content of any fruit.
The indigenous Mapuche people have traditionally used maqui for a variety of medicinal purposes, including treatment of fever, sore throat, diarrhoea, haemorrhoids and ulcers. Aside from its antioxidant properties, anthocyanin is an effective anticoagulant and cholesterol regulator.
Loving Earth’s powder is milled from freeze-dried fresh maqui berries, a process which preserves its natural nutrients and produces a fine powder that dissolves easily and without grittiness. It can be added to cereals, yogurt, smoothies and desserts, or just stirred into a glass of water and consumed alone.
