Where Did Ear Candling Originate From?

Ear Candling, also known as Ear Coning is an alternative treatment with ancient roots. Its exact origins are unclear but it has been linked to Chinese, Tibetan and Egyptian cultures.

What Is Ear Candling?

Ear Candling involves placing a lit, hollow, cone-shaped candle into the ear canal, the  heat from the candle is supposed to soften hardened ear wax and draw it up and out of the ear.

What Are Ear Candles Made Of?

They are made of cotton or linen that has been wound tightly into a cone shape. Usually soaked in beeswax, paraffin or soy wax.

Why Use Ear Candles?

Ear candles are an alternative treatment to remove wax, improve hearing and assist with ear infections.

How Is An Ear Candle Used?

A practitioner will place the pointed end of the candle in your ear and light the open end. As the candle burns, it will be trimmed and kept open. The practice usually takes around 15 minutes per ear. The flame is blown out and the candle can be cut open to display the inside materials.

Are there any risks involved?

Although is an ancient tradition practiced for thousands of years many doctors don't advocate Ear Candling. Some experts believe that there is a risk that the candle wax can block the ear drum and that if done incorrectly you risk burning yourself. My advice would be to visit a specialist such as a massage therapist or beauty therapist for treatment.
